Scottie Scheffler is the man of the moment right now but Tiger Woods has been that guy for almost 30 years.

Scheffler won the 2024 Masters by four shots on 11-under-par to claim his second major title, but Woods completing 72 holes at a major for the first time in two years was almost the bigger story.

Woods, arguably the greatest golfer of all time, finished in 60th place at Augusta National with a disappointing 16-over par.

The 48-year-old's best years are undeniably behind him, but once upon a time Tiger was a tour de force on the PGA Tour and an inevitable yet unstoppable presence in major championships.

Golf has changed a lot since Woods' historic 2000 season, which saw him hoover up nine PGA Tour titles, including three majors.

One only has to look at the financials to see just how seismic the shift has been.

Woods earned a record-breaking $10.7 million in tournament earnings for his heroics back in 2000 - which turns out be relative peanuts compared to what it would be in 2024 money.

According to Golf Digest, if you adjust the financials from Woods' 2000 season to 2024, he would have earned more than $92 million in prize money.

The calculation factors in bigger purses and new player bonuses, both for the FedEx Cup and the PGA Tour's Player Impact Program, and assumes given Woods' dominance during the 2000 season that he would have won both the FedEx Cup ($25 million) and PIP top bonus ($15 million).

His major victories would have also seen him take home staggering paydays.

Woods won the PGA Championship in 2000 to earn $900,000.

Per the model, that $900,000 payday would be $4.5 million in today's cash.

Elsewhere, Tiger's 2000 US Open winner's purse would jump from $800,000 to $3.6 million in 2024, while his Open Championship victory would see his $759,150 windfall in 2000 reach $4.5 million in 2024.

Woods, who turned pro in 1996, has reportedly made around $121 million in official prize money during his career.

With today's payouts, he would have earned that figure in around three-quarters of one season today.

Fifteen-time major winner Woods is currently set to compete in all four majors this season following April's Masters.

The PGA Championship at Valhalla is in May, followed by the US Open at Pinehurst in June and The Open at Royal Troon in July.

But Woods is looking even beyond that and is reportedly 'in talks' about the possibility of succeeding Zach Johnson as Team USA captain for the next Ryder Cup in 2025.

The American has appeared for the US on eight occasions in the bi-annual tournament and served as vice-captain in 2016, but has never been sole captain.

"We're still talking about it," Woods said ahead of this year's Masters.

"It's something that Seth [Waugh, chief executive of the PGA of America] and I are going to sit back and talk about it after this event [The Masters].
