Arsenal legend Martin Keown has questioned the Gunners' ability to provide the goods on the big stage after defeat to Bayern Munich.

The Gunners lost 1-0 to the German giants in their Champions League quarter-final second leg, with boss Mikel Arteta ruing the two goals they conceded in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal, who were playing in the last eight of the competition for the first time since 2010, battled well in the first half at the Allianz Arena.

But Joshua Kimmich's header sealed their second defeat in four days after their 2-0 loss to Aston Villa that dented their Premier League title hopes, with the pressure seeming to get to them again.

And it's a concern that Gunners 'Invincible' Keown has raised about the side as they reflect on another disappointing defeat.

When asked on TNT Sports how the players will be feeling, he said: "Well, hugely disappointed. It comes down to fine margins, decision making on the pitch, only one goal between the two teams.

"But I just feel that Arsenal never really gave a proper account of themselves and it's just when it matters most, we don't seem to be able to deliver.

"So it's one of those, you have to suck it up, all the players are hurting but you have to use that almost as oxygen for the remainder of the season.

"You have to get up again, it's a huge disappointment for the fans, supporters, you just want the players to perform to their maximum, tonight it just didn't happen for them."

Arsenal led Bayern in the first leg but after shipping two goals in the first half, they had to settle for a 2-2 on home turf.

Even though their German opponents have struggled this season an away trip to the Allianz Arena was always going to be tough, and it ended in a 3-2 aggregate defeat.

Speaking after the match, Arteta hinted that the goals they conceded in the first leg were key to their exit as he told TNT Sports: "At the moment it's a really gutted dressing room, very disappointed. I cannot find the right words to lift them, I wish I had.

Oasis legend Noel Gallagher joins outraged fans in slamming Arsenal fans for disgraceful move of leaving the Emirates early after defeat to Aston Villa

"We have to go through it, we tried against a team that has a lot of experience. Through the tie, I think the margins have been very small, there were moments we've been better, we give them two goals, in a tie that's a big advantage to give away.

"Today you could see that it was a margin of error, zero. We made a mistake defending the box, big one, and we conceded the goal. Then it was difficult, we tried in many different ways but it's difficult.

"It's the moment to stay next to the players, give them support and stick to them because they are the ones that have taken us in this journey."

Premier League football is all that's left for Arsenal to play this season as they eye a first league title for 20 years.

They sit second in the table behind reigning champions Manchester City, with an away trip to Wolves on Saturday a chance to respond to their latest disappointment.
