Premier League LIVE: Mohamed Salah signs new deal, Man United target new goalkeeper after latest Onana errors, Howe forced to withdraw from press conference

Liverpool received a timely boost ahead of Sunday's clash with West Ham as Mohamed Salah committed his future to the club.

The Reds winger has ended any uncertainty over his future by penning a new two-year deal at Anfield.

It would be fair to say that Arne Slot is delighted with the news.

  • Back on?

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's representatives have reportedly contacted Newcastle United to see if they would be interested in a summer move for the striker.

DCL's deal at Everton expires in two months, and there are no talks over a new one, meaning as it stands, he would be a free agent.

Eddie Howe and the scouting team at St James' Park are known to be admirers of Calvert-Lewin and have long been linked with a move.

They even attempted a PSR-busting swap deal last year, but it fell through.

However, The Chronicle report the striker's agents have reached out to establish if the Magpies would be keen on the former Sheffield United man.

Callum Wilson looks likely to leave Tyneside this summer, so Calvert-Lewin could be a cheap backup for Alexander Isak.

  • It's all coming up Slot

The good news for Liverpool just keeps rolling in with Arne Slot providing an injury update ahead of facing West Ham.

The Dutchman revealed that he has Alisson Becker and Conor Bradley available.

Alisson missed the 3-2 defeat after failing a concussion check.

Meanwhile, Bradley contributed an assist off the bench last weekend, and he is fit to start.

This is a big opportunity for Bradley, given he is the natural successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

  • Not happening

talkSPORT understands that Liverpool will not be making it a double contract announcement today.

There were rumours that Virgil van Dijk's two-year deal would be confirmed at midday, but that isn't the case.

The Dutchman has verbally agreed everything to extend his stay, but Reds fans will have to wait just a little bit longer.

We are sure the Mohamed Salah news will be enough anyway, and Van Dijk will be confirmed in due course.

  • Fitness update

Newcastle United assistant manager Jason Tindall provided a fitness update on Edde Howe and Anthony Gordon this morning.

Ahead of facing Manchester United at the weekend, Howe wasn't at the Toon's press conference due to illness.

However, Tindall expects him to be on the sidelines on Sunday.

Meanwhile, after returning from a three-match ban, Anthony Gordon hasn't played yet due to a hip injury suffered on international duty.

But Tindall believes he could be involved at the weekend.

On Howe, Tindall said: "He's been really poorly in the last couple of days but we've been in daily contact.

"We've been speaking three or four times a day so it's not affected any of the preparations.

"We've still got a couple of days and I'm sure he'll be fine for the weekend."

And on Gordon, he said: "He's had a decent week with the physios. He was back out on grass for a session yesterday so we'll assess him today to see how he's responded to that then we'll have to make a late call on whether he's available for Sunday."

  • Hands off

talkSPORT understands that Nottingham Forest have whacked a £100 million valuation on Morgan Gibbs-White to ward off any interest in the attacking midfielder.

Manchester City have identified Gibbs-White as a potential replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, who will leave the club this summer.

However, if City are to get the former Wolves man, they will need to spend roughly what they did to get Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Forest are currently pushing to get Champions League football, and he has been a key part of that.

Nuno Espirito Santo gives Gibbs-White the freedom as a ten, and he is thriving at the City Ground.

Should Forest seal a place among Europe's elite, coupled with the price tag, it's hard to see him going anywhere.

  • Making moves

talkSPORT understands that Manchester United have increased their scouting of Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

The 22-year-old is valued at £40 million by his club Parma, and it follows a string of error from Andre Onana.

Suzuki was born in the United States, but he is a Japanese international with 18 caps.

He only joined the Italian club in the summer for around £7 million, but he could be on his way to Old Trafford.

Onana has endured a tough week after being called out by Nemanja Matic, he went on to make two errors leading to goals during Man United's Europa League tie against Lyon last night.

  • 'I don't think so'

The good news for Liverpool just keeps on coming this morning.

After Mohamed Salah signed a new two-year deal with the Reds, Alexis Mac Allister's dad has now claimed that he can't see his son leaving any time soon.

The Argentine midfielder has revealed in the past that he would like to play in Spain, but Liverpool fans can rest easy.

Speaking in Argentina, Mac Allister's dad said: "For now, I don't think so (leaving Liverpool).

Time will tell. Alexis is very happy where he is. He lives in Manchester, and on the block where he lives is [Andy] Robertson, [Joe] Gomez, and four blocks away is Licha (Lisandro) Martinez.

"Alexis speaks English well, understands the rules of the game, and converses with people.

"I think it's been the best thing he's had, and that's why the adaptation was easier."

  • 'Relief

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been discussing the new two-year deal for Mohamed Salah ahead of his side facing West Ham this weekend.

After months of speculation regarding the Egyptian's future, he has finally quashed all rumours by committing himself to Anfield for another two years.

He hasn't taken a pay cut on his wages, but the Reds are keeping one of the world's best forwards, and Arne Slot is delighted.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference about Salah, he said: "I am happy, of course.

"He has shown for so many years in a row how much value he has to the club, like all the fans and the teammates they are very happy he has extended for two more years.

"Relief? For the fans I think so.

"It's no surprise to you I knew a bit better how the contract situation went.

"I knew a bit longer things were heading in the right direction. It is a big compliment to Richard Hughes because Mo Salah, as a free agent, can go to any club he wants to."

  • Concern

Eddie Howe has been forced to withdraw from Newcastle's pre-match conference due to illness.

The Magpies boss was set to speak to the media on Friday to discuss Sunday's upcoming clash against Manchester United.

But the 47-year-old will be replaced by assistant boss Jason Tindall.

A statement read: "Due to illness, please note that Jason Tindall will take this morning's pre-match press conference as a replacement for Eddie Howe."

It remains unclear whether Howe will be in the dugout at St James' Park this weekend.

  • Field of dreams

Mohamed Salah's new deal will see him bank £400,000-a-week at Liverpool, talkSPORT understands.

The 32-year-old has officially put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Anfield.

He had been set to depart Merseyside this summer with his deal to expire at the end of the season.

But his future lies at Liverpool, with talkSPORT understanding he remains on his previous salary.

His contract, which includes bonuses, keeps him as one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League alongside Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne.

  • Sal or nothing

Mohamed Salah has signed a new two-year deal at Liverpool to end any uncertainty over his future.

The Reds winger was set to become a free agent at the end of the season - leading to rumours over a move to Saudi Arabia.

Salah himself admitted he was 'more out than in' earlier in the campaign.

But he has since signed on the dotted line to give the Merseyside outfit a huge push as they close in on their second Premier League title.

The Egyptian has been the standout player in the top-flight this term - chipping in with 27 goals and 17 assists.

And he will be looking to mark his new deal by getting on the score sheet once again in Sunday's clash with Liverpool.

  • All to play for

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is expecting a very tense second leg in Germany next week.

Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Frankfurt tonight, meaning the quarter-final tie is still undecided.

"I can't ask any more of the lads," Postecoglou said. "It was disappointing to concede the way we did.

"Even before that I thought we were well in control of the game. I thought it would bare fruit in the second half and it did in every aspect but goals."

He added: "For us, the biggest blow we had was conceding so early. That kind of played into their hands, I always felt we'd finish the game strong.

"On any other night we go away with a comfortable victory. We have to go there and we knew it would get decided in the second tie. If we repeat that performance we give ourselves a chance.

"I don't expect the second game to be to open, it'll be cagey affair and it'll come down to moments.

"The second leg is going to be tight for sure, it might even go to extra-time, we're going to need all the lads ready to go."

  • 'He doesn't like this team'

Man United legend Paul Scholes believes Ruben Amorim isn't telling the truth about his feelings on his team.

Amorim refused to criticise Andre Onana after his costly errors tonight, and gave a positive interview post-match.

On Onana, the United boss told TNT Sports: “It’s important to focus on the next game for the league and then second leg.

“When one player has a mistake, the whole team makes a mistake.”

He was then asked about potentially dropping him going forward, to which he replied: “We continue to do the same thing.”

After that chat, Scholes assessed his comments and he wasn't sure that Amorim actually means what he said.

Scholes said on TNT Sports: "I don't think he believes that. I don't think he likes his team.

"I think he knows he doesn't have a great football team. I think he wants better, he needs better.

"You can see that by the way he is on the touchline. He always looks disappointed to me.

"The way he's speaking there, tells me he's disappointed by what he's got and he needs better.

"Everyone knows he needs better if they want to be where Man United want to be. It's all over the pitch.

"He can be quite pleased defensively, they've been quite tight recently, but that's taking away the goal threat.

"I think the quality all around the pitch isn't quite there, I don't think they have the control in the middle of the pitch, I don't think the forwards' quality is quite there.

"He knows, and he's never going to say it, he doesn't like this football team. That's something I take away from that.

"I might be wrong, I don't know, but the impression I get is that this team is nowhere near the standard he wants and expects.

"It could take two or three years to get something a lot more enjoyable to watch, a lot more attacking, a lot more quality in every area of the football pitch."

  • Bad karma

Andre Onana takes headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Nemanja Matic gets the last laugh, at least until the second leg.

Speaking about Onana's error, Troy Deeney said live on talkSPORT: "The football gods have just told you to stay humble.

"With these type of comments you need to be in a good vein of form...It's amateur hour.

"You feel like you've come away from home and it couldn't have gone any better. But your goalkeeper time and time again is letting you down.

"That is not the sign of a good goalkeeper."

  • Game over!

Can you believe it? The full-time whistle blows.

Andre Onana, what have you done?

All of the attention was on the Man United goalkeeper ahead of the game as he went back and forth with Nemanja Matic.

Matic labelled him as 'one of the worst goalkeeper's in the club's history' - and Onana may have just proved him right.

It's the Cameroonian's errors that let United down tonight.

Lyon will now go to Old Trafford still level in this tie.

  • GOAL! Lyon 2-2 Man United: Rayan Cherki

ANDRE ONANA AGAIN! IT'S A TERRIBLE ERROR!

Georges Mikautadze's strike is straight at the Man United goalkeeper and he fumbles it out straight to Rayan Cherki!

Cherki then just taps home a last-gasp equaliser!

United thought they'd won it through Joshua Zirkzee, but Onana has let their late lead slip!

Alex Crook live on talkSPORT: "That's a catastrophe!"

  • Left wide open

It's all over in north London!

Tottenham have drawn 1-1 with Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.

And that means things are left wide open heading into the second leg in Germany.

Spurs will have felt they needed to win this game to make things easier and boost their hopes.

So, it's going to be a nervy 90 minutes in a week's time...

  • GOAL! Lyon 1-2 Man United: Joshua Zirkzee

    MAN UNITED HAVE WON IT!

WITH TWO MINUTES TO GO, JOSHUA ZIRKZEE SCORES!

Bruno Fernandes lifts a cross to the back post and Zirkzee rises highest to nod past the goalkeeper!

How huge could that goal be?!

Troy Deeney live on talkSPORT: "There's nothing the keeper can do.

    "That's confidence personified."

  • Good enough?

Is a draw in this first leg good enough for Spurs?

They would be a lot more comfortable if they can get a second goal and take a lead to Germany next week...

Ange Postecoglou's side only have stoppage time to find it.

If they can't, the tie remains in the balance in the second leg.

It's the same situation for Man United, except the Red Devils will have home advantage when trying to progress.

  • Getting feisty

It's all kicking off in Lyon!

Mason Mount and Nicolas Tagliafico clash and then players start rushing over and getting involved.

A small brawl unfolds with Alexandre Lacazette in there, before Mount and Tagliafico are then booked.

After that, Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro come close to a late winner with time running out...

  • Time for changes

Spurs have made three late substitutions.

As we enter the final 10 minutes in north London, Ange Postecoglou is freshening his side up.

Destiny Udogie, Heung-min Son and James Maddison come off.

Pape Matar Sarr, Mathys Tel and Djed Spence are on.

Can they help the hosts find a late winner?

  • 'That's terrible'

Oh, what a chance for Man United!

It's a brilliant chance to break for the Red Devils and Alejandro Garnacho has runners on either side.

But his pass towards Bruno Fernandes is poor and Lyon are able to step in and cut the attack out.

That was a great opportunity to take the lead...

Troy Deeney live on talkSPORT: "That's terrible from Garnacho

"Zirkzee takes a defender with him and all Garnacho has to do is slip Fernandes through."

  • Time ticking

We're entering the latter stages now.

Spurs are still being held by Frankfurt, but each time they come forward they're threatening.

The German side have everyone behind the ball and they're just sitting back to wait for a counter.

At the moment though, if one team are going to score it looks like it will be the hosts.

As for Man United, they're still level with Lyon too.

Leny Yoro has had a low strike roll just wide of the post as he looked to claim his second of the night in the Europa League.

  • Huge chance

Former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette should have put Lyon back in front against Man United.

The Frenchman slices his effort wide only moments after coming on at the start of the second half.

Ruben Amorim's side are coming under some pressure.

Manuel Ugarte has been booked for the Red Devils too.

We're closing in on the hour mark in Europe.

  • Off the bar!

Ohhh, how close can you get?! Twice?!

Lucas Bergvall strikes the crossbar for Spurs first!

The Swedish starlet shoots on his right foot from the edge and it looks to be flying into the top corner...

But the strike comes back off the woodwork and the hosts are denied a huge goal in this tie.

Then, after Kaua Santos kept Heung-min Son's powerful effort, Rodrigo Bentancur hits the bar too!

His header clips the woodwork and goes over.

Bergvall's reaction below just says it all!
