Alex Pearce on the relegation and battle and his international career.

Alex Pearce is hoping that regular Championship football could see him return to the International fold.

The 30 year-old who has been capped seven times by the Republic of Ireland has forced his way into Millwall’s starting line up since his arrival from Derby in January. Pearce is out of contract at Derby in the summer where he failed to make a single start in any competition before his loan move to Millwall.

Asked if his form deserves a recall to the Irish side Pearce said “Hopefully yeah, that’s not for me to say on that one but obviously it’s a privilege to represent my country and will do whenever asked with 110%.”

Pearce spoke after Millwall’s Easter Monday defeat at Aston Villa a result that left Millwall three points above the relegation places with three games remaining. ” It’s about one thing this year. It’s about staying up in the league. It’s all about staying up in the league and helping the cause and I think we are showing that in games. We are showing we’ve got the fight, the effort and the determination. It’s just working on that bit of quality in the final third or in the build-up play to get us in those areas. It’s a work in process but hopefully we will be back to winning ways on Saturday.

Togetherness has been a major part of the Millwall DNA under Neil Harris and Pearce believes Millwall have the right togetherness and characters in the changing room to ensure their survival. That could be done this weekend with victory over Stoke. “We’ve got a few characters in there. Everyone’s pulling in the right direction. We’ve got a great bunch, a tight knit group everyone gets on well and we’re all fighting for the cause.
