Sheffield Wednesday showing strong interest in Hull City defender

Sheffield Wednesday are keen on signing Hull City defender Max Clark, according to Hull Live.

The 22-year-old left-back is leaving Hull at the end of the month when his contract expires. He has been a long-term target of Championship side Nottingham Forest but Sheffield Wednesday have joined the race for him.

Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, who are managed by ex-Hull boss Leonid Slutsky, are also interested in signing Clark and want to bring him to the Eredivisie.

Clark broke into the Hull first-team last season and made his debut for them on the opening day against Aston Villa. The left-back made 30 appearances in all competitions and slotted in nicely into their back-line. However, Hull will have to resign to losing him after failing to tie him down a new contract.

The youngster started his career with the Tigers after joining them in 2006. Clark gained his first taste of first-team experience during two loan spells at League Two side Cambridge United in the 2014/15 and 2015/16 seasons, where he played a combined 44 games for them.

It is a shame for Hull to lose a home grown talent but his next destination could potentially be the team they beat in the Championship Play-Off final in 2016, Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls are looking to bring in some players to bolster their squad this summer and Clark would be a shrewd signing for them.

However, Sheffield Wednesday will have to see off interest from Vitesse and Nottingham Forest for Clark’s signature. Vitesse could be an attractive offer for him as they are in the top flight in Holland.
