West Brom striker Dwight Gayle has been suspended for two games after accepting a Football Association charge of diving.

Gayle will miss this weekend's Midands derby against Aston Villa and the trip to QPR after admitting the charge, following an incident in the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Forest were furious after Gayle appeared to dive in the area in the 89th minute, with referee Lee Mason awarding a penalty which was put away by Jay Rodriguez to rescue West Brom a point.

Gayle was charged retrospectively with 'successful deception of a match official' by an independent panel and will serve the standard two-game ban.

West Brom are understood to bitterly disappointed with the ban but concluded that challenging the charge would have been futile.

Their statement read: “The club supports Dwight’s view that he was attempting to avoid anticipated challenges in the 89th minute incident which led to a penalty award for Albion.

“Although disappointed with the outcome, Albion have regrettably concluded any appeal would be fruitless.”

Gayle has scored 16 goals for Darren Moore's team since signing on loan from Newcastle in August.
