Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder over the moon after Middlesbrough win

Sheffield United boosted their promotion push with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough last night at Bramall Lane.

The Blades were looking to bounce back from the two points they dropped at Villa Park last Friday when Aston Villa fought back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 in the late stages of the game.

Chris Wilder’s side put in a solid performance to earn all three points against fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough.

Defender Richard Stearman, who hasn’t been a first-team regular this season, slotted in in defence and scored the only goal of the game on 61 minutes to earn a valuable three points for his side.

The Blades remain 3rd in the Championship and are two points behind Norwich City in second. Middlesbrough, on the other hand, are now 6th and are only in the Play-Off positions on goal difference. Their automatic promotion hopes have taken a major blow.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was delighted with the result last night and said, as per the Sheffield Star:Pound for pound, that feels right up there because of the circumstances and who we were up against. I told the lads in the huddle afterwards, they’ve proved they’ve got real b***s to come back because it’s been a difficult few days with what happened there (Villa Park).”

He also added: “I’ve been a fan of this club for a long time and there’s been plenty of teams that have let the supporters down but not this group, not this team”.
