Chambers: It's a Big Challenge But We're Getting Stronger
Wednesday, 6th Feb 2019 20:37

Skipper Luke Chambers admits it’s a big challenge for the Blues to escape dropping into League One but believes Town are getting stronger as the January signings reach match sharpness. The bottom-of-the-table Blues are eight points plus goal difference from safety with 16 games left to play.

“It’s strange, given where we are in the table, that there is such a good vibe about the place. The manager has to take a lot of credit for that,” he told the club site.

“With the players we have brought in, there is a lot more experience in the squad and we still believe we can get out of the mess we are in.

“We are playing well and the fact that we haven’t got the points I think those performances warranted makes it even more galling.

“I speak to my dad after games and I feel like a fraud sometimes. I tell him how well we have played but ultimately you have to win football matches and we have not done enough of that this season.

“It’s a big challenge to get out of it but we are getting stronger. The players we have brought in are getting that match sharpness.

“I look at some of the clubs around us and I think we have more to offer and there will be a game when everything clicks and we win by two or three.

“Hopefully that will be the catalyst and we can go on a run from there because when we have won games this season, we have never followed it up. Every game now is a cup final though. That is the situation we are in."

Chambers is hoping to return to the team facing Norwich in Sunday's East Anglian derby after missing Saturday's home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday due to a foot injury sustained the previous weekend at Aston Villa.

Oh dear God!
Who are they going to roll out next to tell us things are getting better, Pope Francis? The archbishop of Canterbury? Or perhaps Benny Hill!
Keep saying this B. S enough and maybe someone will buy it... Wait..... The men in white coats have arrived

Please I can't stand any more of PR we are where we are because we have no creativity or goalscorer. We are not in a false position the table does not lie. Who next is going to be wheeled out to say we can get out of this!

What they say and how we play couldn't be more contrasting,No evidence of it on the pitch whatsoever.Playing with less belief than I have. Looking at the remaining fixtures it appears unlikely that we'll get 30pts !

Please let's just be realistic ; cut the regular cynicism & despondency ,we can all go there with the greatest of ease.
We ARE in a poor position ,and don't have mature creative mid fielders ,nor yet those who naturally and regularly find the net @ yes it's always been true ‘ goals win games ‘.
Long ago we used to say,' you shouldn't ever lose if you score 3 goals ‘ – just how often these days do teams in any division get into that position ?
The game and sport has changed : and sadly it's going to take time to put things right at ITFC,BUT
now the Town all need our support and can do without ‘sourpuss ‘ ‘ know all comments ‘!
Let's be ONLY supportive and look for the good !

For me , this is insulting , I think nearly all town fans know we are by far the worst team in this league and of late , have been performing WORSE, not better. Chambers would be much better off keeping his trap shut and beating Norwich on Sunday, than coming out with this.

2 shots on target and 3 corners last home game. And that's playing really well? Obviously very low expectations by our players.

What do you expect him to say??

He's our captain saying what he is supposed to say and doing what captains do, support the club..

Yes we are pretty much down, but get behind the team!

Just wow, I don't know what some of our players see? It's certainly not what the rest of us can! Loving the optimism, but honestly it's getting embarrassing......You can't kid a kidder, we're bottom of the league for numerous reasons, it's certainly not because we are getting better. In fact, based on Saturday's evidence we are getting worse!

I feel like this week leading up to Norwich, it should be plain and simple radio silence until the game, let's just work on the training ground, none of this PR nonsense, let's just work on the ground and bash the nodge in on Sunday

Hurst 9 points from 16 games with 12 new players

Lambert 9 points from 16 games with 7 new players

16 games left ......... 9 points with no new players .....possible

27 points from 16 games left is needed to give Town a chance.

Continually making statements like this will only make fans even angrier than they already are. Radio silence until after the Norwich game would have been a much better plan of action.

Lets see if that's really true on Sunday, Luke. Dreading a route if the Ginger Pele and yourself are not fit.. :-(

Chambers and Skuse have obviously pioneered the art of talking total bullshiite! Either that or they're smoking pot!

inghamspur added 21:59 - Feb 6
How can he say we're playing well? Get a nosebleed in the opposition penalty & always look like conceding. Just let the results do the talking.

Don't know about TM lobbying the "old fossils", but the club is almost certainly going to have a hard Chexit!

Luckily every game is a cup final cos if it was like a cup game we'd have no chance. I'm always an optimist and can only hope we get a win on Sunday I'll be there to support them on. I do agree though just keep quiet for now because we've heard it all from all players.

You don't score goals, create chances, or keep clean sheets Luke.

Aint gonna happen unless the system is changed to “try a different approach”... we have seen zero evidence of having a 4-4-2 from the last 2 mangers, were down buh.

Dissboyitfc added 22:43 - Feb 6
Northstand77 I expect him at this point to say nothing! Say it after we are improving; there have been periods of playing well the best we have managed is the odd 45 here and there or the last 20 here and there but I can't remember a good 90 mins! Just put in the performances and save the words, please, especially this Sunday!!!

I am pleased with Lambert in charge.
I am glad he will be in charge next season in league one.
I don't doubt he'll build a side capable of trying to get promoted.
But can we stop all the happy PR and saying how brilliant our football is because it's been getting worse.
First few games we had a lot of possession and more shots.
Now barely any.
Let's be real we will go down.
But Lambert can bring us back up.
