Donacien Returns to Accrington on Loan
Friday, 18th Jan 2019 13:40

Blues defender Janoi Donacien has returned to his former club Accrington Stanley on loan for the rest of the season.

The 25-year-old St Lucian joined the Blues from Stanley for a fee of £750,000 in the summer under Paul Hurst - a deal which was only recently confirmed after the defender received his permanent leave to remain - but hasn’t featured at all since Paul Lambert, his one-time Aston Villa boss, took charge at Portman Road.

“It’s a boost to have Janoi back,” Stanley manager John Coleman told their official site. “I am sure he has missed not playing regularly and being around the lads here.

“I think Janoi can play higher than League One but it has been hard at Ipswich as they had a lot of players making the step up at once. It’s great to have him back as we know what he can do.”

Donacien, who helped Accrington to the League Two title last season, could make his second debut for the Lancastrians tomorrow when they face Charlton Athletic at the Valley.

I hate to say I told you so but I was warning Pre season about signing so many lower league players. You'd be lucky to have 2 Make the step up in that scenario. Along with Jackson, Roberts, Nsiala Donacien doesn't look capable. Edwards maybe, but the jury is still out as it is with Harrison...but even these two can only hope to be average championship players: It's strange to see how many on here are applauding PL for saying we needed players with experience at this level and some more physical presence.... I can only imagine the “Dino” laiden comments of MM had said that and the moaning about only being a top ten side.

I thought he wasn't too bad. Bit shaky in defence at times, but then he was surrounded by newcomers.

At his age he needs game time and clearly isn't going to get it here, so good move for him. But I can't see Accrington buying him back for the same fee - possibly not at all. Maybe if he shines in League One then someone may come in for him during the summer, assuming he's not deemed surplus to our requirements 'if' we get relegated (sorry, but I just can't see us getting enough points to stay up).

good luck janoi.
hopefully he does well, and either shows lambert he is a full back, or gets a move and gets us a fee!

Accrington have done pretty well out of that deal, but good luck to them.

Jackson, Nolan, Roberts, Edwards all need to go out on loan as well or sold. Just not good enough. Harrison to be kept as back up forward.

£750,000 of money well spent by Paul Hurst. Starting to see why ME may be tight with the budget when he sees crap like this bought in

This is just so bizarre...give them £750k and loan him back...and we are awash with money! There's obviously a player there as Accrington are a better team than us and he is able to get into their side when our right backs are about as bad as they have ever been??
I just don't get it as he's looked ok in the limited game he's had??

...v sad state of affairs ..,for both clubs...only one winner JD
.....if we loan him back and hopefully Accrington will pick up his wages ...the transfer fee wil then help then pay for his higher wages ...cash from the transfer fee runs out...they are left with no additional money , player returns to us .......then move him on for no fee ......it's an absolute mess

I will never forgive Paul Hurst for what he did to the club. Six millon pounds down the drain.

I feel there's some unfair criticism aimed at the likes of Donacien, Harrison and Jackson.
Injury and tactics didn't help Harrison and the other two have barely had a look in!
Those that say Jackson isn't championship quality I'd like to see his mins/goal ratio in comparison to Sears for example? Just my view.
